This article explains when you're expected to pay for something as a PerkUp reward recipient, and when PerkUp or your employer covers the cost.

Do I have to pay for my reward itself?

No. Your reward is funded by your employer's organization, not by you. When you claim a gift, gift card, swag item, or PerkUp Dollars, the cost comes out of the budget your employer set for that reward. You never enter payment details to receive or redeem what was sent to you.

Can I choose to spend my own money on top of a reward?

Yes, but it's optional. During checkout on some rewards, you may see the option to add your own personal funds on top of your reward budget — for example, to afford a more expensive item than your budget covers. If you add personal funds, you'll pay with a card through a secure payment form. This option is entirely your choice, and some organizations disable it for specific gifts, in which case you won't see it at checkout.

Personal funds you add are separate from your reward budget. They don't expire, and any refund on them is handled by our support team rather than a self-serve button — contact support through the messenger on this help center or in the app if you need a refund.

Will I be charged customs or duty fees on an international order?

If your physical order ships internationally, the shipment can pass through customs and your country's customs authority may charge a duty or import fee before delivery. This isn't a PerkUp charge — it's assessed by customs, and PerkUp doesn't control it.

If you're charged a customs fee, PerkUp reimburses 100% of it. To request reimbursement:

  1. Pay the customs fee to receive your package.

  2. Keep your customs receipt.

  3. Contact support through the messenger on this help center or in the app, and submit the receipt along with your order number.

Support will confirm the details of your reimbursement once you reach out. For the full policy on international shipping and customs, see "Customs fees and reimbursement".

Does PerkUp ever ask me to pay before I can claim a reward?

No. Claiming a reward — following your claim link, choosing your gift, and checking out — never requires a payment from you unless you actively choose to add personal funds as described above. If a claim flow is asking you for payment information you didn't expect, contact support through the messenger on this help center or in the app before entering any card details.
