This article explains how to swap a claimed gift for a different product or convert it to spendable PerkUp balance, when that option is available.
What does "swap" or "convert" mean?
When you claim a gift, some gifts include extra flexibility that the sender turns on when they create the reward. Depending on how the gift is set up, you may see one or both of these options on your claimed gift:
Swap for a different product: exchange the gift for an alternative item instead of the one originally chosen.
Convert to PerkUp balance: turn your gift budget into spendable PerkUp balance you can use elsewhere, instead of redeeming it for the specific gift.
Not every gift offers these choices — it depends on settings the sender applied when they sent the reward.
How do I swap or convert my gift?
Open your claim link and go to the gift's landing or reveal screen. If swap and/or convert options were enabled by the sender, you'll see them presented alongside the original gift before you check out. Choose the option you want:
Open your claim link from the reward email (or Slack DM, if your organization uses Slack).
On the landing or reveal screen, look for a swap option, a convert-to-balance option, or both.
Select the option you want — a different product, or PerkUp balance — and confirm.
If you don't see a swap or convert option on your gift, that gift wasn't set up with that flexibility, and you'll redeem it as originally sent.
Why don't I see a swap or convert option on my gift?
Swap and convert are optional settings the sender turns on per gift. If neither is enabled for your reward, your claim screen will only show the original gift, with no alternative choices. This is expected — it doesn't mean anything is broken with your reward. If you believe your gift should include this flexibility, contact the person who sent it, or reach out through the messenger on this help center or in the app.
Can I change my mind after I swap or convert?
No. Once you convert your gift to PerkUp balance or swap it for a different product and complete checkout, that choice is final. Review your options carefully before confirming — you won't be able to switch back to the original gift or pick a different option afterward.
What happens to my balance after I convert?
When you convert a gift to PerkUp balance, the gift's budget becomes spendable dollars in your account. From there, it behaves like any other PerkUp balance — see "What can I spend my PerkUp balance on?" for what you can use it on, and visit your Transactions page to see the converted amount reflected in your account.
