This article explains what happens when you remove a team member from PerkUp, and how offboarding is handled if you sync with an HRIS.
What happens when I remove someone from PerkUp?
Removing a person from your Directory un-enrolls them from every program they're part of, deletes any rewards scheduled to send to them that haven't gone out yet, and cancels their Perk Card. You need admin access to remove a team member. This is the right step to take once someone has left your company and shouldn't continue receiving rewards or automation sends.
Do scheduled or upcoming rewards still go out after I remove someone?
No. Any reward that was scheduled but not yet sent to that person is deleted when you remove them, so it won't go out after they're gone. Rewards that already sent and were claimed before removal are unaffected — the person keeps whatever they've already redeemed. If a reward is in the process of sending at the exact moment of removal, check the program's recipient list afterward to confirm it didn't go through.
What happens to their Perk Card?
Their Perk Card is cancelled as part of removal, so it can no longer be used for purchases. Do this promptly once someone has left your organization to prevent further spending on the card.
Does removal happen automatically if I sync an HRIS?
Yes, if you have an HRIS integration connected. When a person is marked as terminated or goes inactive in your HRIS, they're removed from PerkUp automatically the next time your HRIS syncs — you don't need to manually remove them in the directory as well. This keeps offboarding consistent with your source-of-truth HR system, so a termination in your HRIS reliably cancels the Perk Card and un-enrolls the person from programs without extra admin steps.
What if I don't use an HRIS integration?
Without an HRIS sync, removal is a manual step. Go to your Directory, find the person who's leaving, and remove them as soon as their departure is confirmed. Waiting to do this leaves their Perk Card active and any scheduled rewards in place, so it's worth building this into your standard offboarding checklist. Team members leaving your company should also review what happens to their own balance — see "What happens to my balance if I leave my company?" for what they can expect.
