This article explains the difference between Member, Manager, and Admin roles in PerkUp, and the extra step managers need to actually send rewards. You need admin access to change anyone's role.
What are the roles in PerkUp?
Every person in your Directory has one of three roles:
Member — can only act on their own membership (claiming and spending their own rewards).
Manager — can also take program actions like activating, expiring, editing, and sending direct rewards.
Admin (full access) — full platform access, including all program actions and account management.
How do I set someone's role?
You can set a person's role in two places: when you invite them, or afterward from the Directory.
To set it on invite, choose Member, Manager, or Admin (full access) as you send the invite.
To change it later, open the person's profile in the Directory and update their role.
You can change a person's role at any time from the Directory.
Why can't my manager send rewards even though I made them a manager?
Being a Manager gives someone permission to take program actions (activate, expire, edit, direct send), but it doesn't automatically let them fund or send from a specific account. Every reward is sent from a funding account, and each account has its own permission level per person: full, send, or view.
To actually send or fund rewards from an account, a person needs at least send permission on that account. Admins get full access to accounts by default, but managers get nothing on an account until an admin grants it. This is the most common cause of "I made them a manager but they still can't send rewards" — the role is set correctly, but the account permission is missing.
To fix it, go to Funding accounts, open the account in question, and grant the manager at least send permission. Once that's set, they'll be able to fund and send rewards from that account.
What can members do with their role?
Members can only act on their own membership — claiming and spending rewards sent to them. They can't take program actions on other people's rewards and don't have any funding account permissions. If someone needs to send or manage rewards for the team, they need at least the Manager role plus send permission on the relevant funding account.
